Proposal #1:
For my physical project I’m going to take photography that shows stages of mental illness. I plan to focus on Anger, Depression and Bipolar disorder. I want to show exactly the way people feel when they have these disorders. Once they’ve gotten the help they need, the pictures will show how much better, and/or happier they became. Any disorder is a long process of work to get over the issues that need to be dealt with, it’s hard and doesn’t happen overnight. I want the world to know this, I want them to realize that a mental illness needs to be helped, not put down. I do realize however that showing these emotions in my pictures will be very difficult. You have to have an eye for this kind of…art. That’s what emotion is, an art that we can only see once it’s put on paper, or canvas, or skin. While I am doing this project I hope to learn more about how people can deal with an issue they face when it comes to a mental disorder. I want to know, or at least learn how to change the world, or even a little piece of it.
Proposal #2:
The topic of my Problem/Solution paper will be about how people need to be paying more attention to each other, about how if we were more educated on mental illness we could stop more death, more bullying. Everyone in America has a problem, they think they’re the only ones who go through it, so they either ignore someone that needs help, or they belittle them because that person’s problem isn’t as important as their own. America has an issue with thinking that we as individuals are the only ones who matter, no one else. I want to change that. With this paper, I hope to open people’s minds to the fact that we all have something going on and we should be there for each other more often than not. My thesis will be “Mental illness is an issue that often gets ignored, until someone goes too far.” This ties into my project for the simple reason that it’s hopefully going to bring awareness to mental health issues.
