Dear ICHS Senior Project Judges:
My name is Josephina Alcoser. I have always been interested in creating more awareness for mental illness and photography. One day I would love to be a counselor or psychologist. I have learned many things this year about mental illness and how to help people that need it.
My physical project was to showcase three main mental illnesses through photography. Anxiety, Bipolar, and Depression. Originally I was going to show the stages, but the more I looked into it the more I realized that these illnesses never go away. This project was difficult because I myself struggle with these illnesses, trying to explain them was easy, but focusing while dealing with these turns out to be extremely stressful. I did realize that life will get better and I consider that to be a success.
My problem solution paper was about how we need to have more awareness of anyone that needs help mentally. I included ideas such as putting up posters showing what the symptoms are, if you notice that someone is upset ask them if they need to talk, or they’d like to hang out sometime. Make an effort to show that you care. Even one person noticing could save a life, whether it’s them or someone else’s life.
I’m very glad I chose this as my project, I have learned many things and I hope minds have been opened up. I’d like to thank you, judges, for volunteering to look over our projects.
Sincerely,
Josephina Alcoser
